Here We Go!

Day 3 (24 Jun 09). The 3rd day of learning saw the introduction of effective survey methods. We were reminded to take the time to really understand the purpose of our surveys and keep this purpose in mind every step of the way. It is useful to first determine desired outcome(s) of the survey, while bearing in mind the type of questions (a balance between qualitative / close-ended, vs. quantitative / open ended), length of survey (considering the attention span of the target respondents) and sampling size. The data from your survey could prove useless if one does not put some upfront thought into what the survey's desired intent. Imagine spending time creating a survey and collecting numerous responses only to realize that the information is not what is really needed!

An interested case study on the "RJC-gate" (refer to Video Bar), that debated on how Styles, Rules and Relationship affects the Learning Environment, clearly raised the energy levels in the class. I would opine that the case-study closed on an unfortunate note; as apart from the labelling of her student in addition to her shredding his assignment, i didn't think she acted drastically out of her prerogative as a teacher.
